Summer Recharge on the Aina!
Mrs. Ranken participated in 'Aimalama Maui this summer- a conference of farmers, fishing-people and educators who want to live and work with the traditional Hawaiian moon calendar- kaulana mahina. As part of our learning, we spent time in kilo (careful observation using our senses) and experiencing how the natural world can speak to us in profound ways.
Practical Plant Package Design (say that 3 x , fast) with First Grade!
"How can I design a package that will keep a plant healthy with no care over Spring Break?" To find solutions to this problem, we combined what we already know about the needs of plants with knowledge of materials and their properties. Each team designed a plant package according to the criteria we had established and placed the completed packages into the garden for the Spring Break Test...stay tuned for the exciting results!
